Born in northern Germany alongside the River Weser, Jan grew up with the local traditions and love for the sea and sailing.
More than 20 years ago, he began his career as a maritime cadet on large container vessels where he progressed through the ranks in the navigation department as he gained extensive knowledge of on-board operations and seamanship. During this time Jan caught his passion for yachting whilst conducting sea trials on superyachts all along the Northern German coast for a number of the well-known yacht builders in that area. Alongside time at sea, Jan was chosen to spend time ashore in the company offices where he was able to view the maritime industry from on land and from a management perspective. His passion for sailing never diminished and after returning to active service on board Jan, was promoted to Master, reaching the pinnacle of an onboard career. Moving again onshore Jan has caught the opportunity to join the Ocean Independence Team in 2023 as an ISM Manager and DPA.
