If b2 – 4ac < 0, then there is no real number whose square is b2 – 4ac. Hence, there are no real roots for the given quadratic equation in this case.

b2 – 4ac is called the discriminant of this quadratic equation since, b2 – 4ac determines whether the quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0 has real roots or not

This chapter introduces a new topic to the students - Arithmetic Progression, commonly called AP. Students will learn what is AP, the derivation of the nth term, finding the sum of first n terms of the AP and solving the real-life problems using AP in this chapter. Chapter 6 of class 10 gives details about the triangles. The chapter gives details about the figures with the same shape but different sizes. Theorem 3: If in two triangles, corresponding angles are equal, then their corresponding sides are in the same ratio (or proportion) and hence the two triangles are similar.

 

Theorem 4: If in two triangles, sides of one triangle are proportional to (i.e., in the same ratio of) the sides of the other triangle, then their corresponding angles are equal and hence the two triangles are similar.

 

Theorem 5: If one angle of a triangle is equal to one angle of the other triangle and the sides including these angles are proportional, then the two triangles are similar.

 

Theorem 6: The ratio of the areas of two similar triangles is equal to the square of the ratio of their corresponding sides.

 

Theorem 7: If a perpendicular is drawn from the vertex of the right angle of a right triangle to the hypotenuse, then triangles on both sides of the perpendicular are similar to the whole triangle and to each other.

 

Theorem 8: In a right triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.

 

Theorem 9: In a triangle, if the square of one side is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides, then the angle opposite the first side is a right angle.

CBSE Class 10 Maths Exam Pattern for 2023-2024

The Central Board of Secondary Education conducts CBSE Class 10 Board exams every year. The exam is of 100 marks where 80 marks are for theory whereas 20 marks are given for internal assessment. The following are some major changes that are planned to be introduced in the new CBSE Exam Pattern:

  • Question papers will be designed to assess students' problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • The paper design will be revised to include more short answer-type questions, like those ranging from 1 to 5 points.
