Here, we shall discuss the relative weightage of the syllabus of Class 11 and Class 12 in each of the three subjects pertaining to the exam. We will also give a few important topics from Class 11 and Class 12 that should not be neglected by you at any cost as they have great importance when it comes to JEE Advance Paper.
Physics is a very concept-oriented subject. Here it is not just enough to memorise the important points. You need to understand them and apply them accordingly. Here the weightage for the syllabus of Class 11 and 12 are almost equal. The chapters of Class 11 act as a base for the chapters of Class 12. There you should through them to understand the chapters of Class 11 and Class 12 and excel in them. Some major chapters of Physics are:
Dimensional analysis
Geometrical optics
Thermodynamics
Rotational dynamics
Kinetic theory of gases
Waves and sound
Electromagnetic induction
Gravitation
Electrostatics
Current electricity and heat transfer
Despite being a volatile subject, Chemistry can be mastered only with repeated practice. Be it Class 11 syllabus or Class 12 syllabus, consistent practice is a must. According to the JEE Chemistry syllabus, usually, the importance for Class 12 syllabus is more than that of Class 11. Generally, the weightage of Class 11 Chemistry syllabus is around 30% to 40%. However, most of the topics that are covered in Class 11 are the basic ones. They serve as a foundation for a deeper understanding of Class 12 topics and therefore should not be ignored. Therefore, even though the weightage of Class 11 syllabus is slightly on the lower side, the topics taught in Class 11 cannot be ignored while preparing for the JEE exams. Some major topics of Class 11 Chemistry are Chemical Bonding, Chemical Equilibrium, Gaseous State, Atomic Structure, General Organic Chemistry, and Stoichiometry.
Maths is a subject which is of prime importance from the beginning of schooling. The foundation of Maths starts from the lowest of classes. With proper basics, any complicated problem can be easily solved in Maths. The same rule applies to JEE exams as well. The chapters of Class 11 are the foundation of Class 12 chapters as well. However, the weightage of topics of Class 11 Mathematics is 40% to 50%. Yet, these cannot be ignored as the advanced versions of these chapters are a part of the Class 12 syllabus. Some of the primary topics of Class 11 Mathematics, which are important, are Coordinate Geometry, Permutations and Combinations, Probability, Complex Numbers, Binomial Theorem, and Progressions.

Here are some important tips that students must follow to secure a good rank in the JEE Advanced exam.
Students should get those books or study materials that are useful for exam preparation. Generally, NCERT books of Physics, Chemistry, and Maths of Classes 11 and 12 are preferred for this examination. But there are other reference books too that students can check out to comprehend topics and gain authentic information.
Students shouldn't ignore the syllabus of JEE Advanced during exam preparation. If a student has complete information on the syllabus, they will be able to get valuable insights about significant topics and chapters that they need to concentrate on, question setters and objectives of the book authors, and other important details. Moreover, knowing the syllabus will also enable students to create a well-structured preparation strategy.
During the JEE Advanced exam preparation, it is necessary to know the exam pattern so students can understand it properly and make a study plan accordingly.
Solving Previous Years' JEE Advanced paper has always been a plus point. Serious JEE Advanced aspirants should solve as many sample papers and previous years' question papers as they can. They must develop a habit of solving at least one to two question papers a day to know the type of questions, question pattern, marking scheme, and duration of the exam. Moreover, this technique will also help students to improve their time management skills so they can complete the main exam before time.
In addition to practicing previous years' papers, students should also attend multiple mock test papers to feel the actual exam scenario. This tip will prepare students to manage their anxiety and stress during the exam so they can concentrate on their exams.
This article has focused on the JEE Advanced Syllabus 2023 where the list of topics along with the important chapters have been mentioned. We have also discussed the percentage of weightage of subjects, class-wise and provided a list of most-recommended books for the exam. 2. Why is JEE Advanced a tough exam?
The JEE Advanced exam is tougher than other engineering entrance exams due to a high level of competition among the most brilliant students in the nation. Other than this, the level of difficulty of the question paper is higher than JEE Main and other engineering competitive exams. Moreover, the number of seats is also an important factor for the selection of students into IITs. There are only 13000 seats available in IITs. And every year more than 1 lakh candidates appear for the exam. Hence, one can predict the difficulty level by looking at these factors.
3. What is the exam pattern of JEE Advanced 2023?
JEE Advanced 2023 has two papers that are Paper 1 and Paper 2. In Paper 1, there were 5 questions of 3 marks each in the Physics section. In Chemistry, 8 questions were there of 4 marks each. And in Mathematics, there were 5 questions of 3 marks each. In Physics and Maths, there was a negative marking of 1 mark. And in Chemistry, the negative marking was 2 marks. In paper 2, the Physics section had 6 questions of 3 marks with a negative marking of 1 mark. Chemistry had 8 questions of 4 marks with -2 negative markings. Maths had 4 questions of 3 marks each with no negative marking.
4. What are the important Chapters of the Chemistry section in JEE Advanced?
In the Chemistry section of the JEE Advanced exam, the following chapters have the highest weightage. Chemical Bonding and molecular structure, Coordination Compounds, p block elements, Chemical Thermodynamics, Electrochemistry, General Organic Chemistry, haloarenes, haloalkanes and phenols, atomic structure, carbonyl compounds- aldehydes and ketones, biomolecules and polymers, alcohols and ethers, Hydrocarbons- Alkanes, alkenes and alkynes. Students can practise these chapters from Vedantu. Here they'll get different study materials like important questions, past years' papers, mock tests etc, too in this subject. For more information head to Vedantu.
5. Is there any reduction in JEE Advanced 2023 syllabus?
The CBSE reduced the 2023 syllabus for Class 11th and Class 12th by deleting some topics. As in the JEE Advanced examination, the questions come from the topics of Class 11th and Class 12th and therefore, the NTA has not reduced the syllabus for the JEE Advanced examination. The curriculum is the same as it was last year. But there will be some changes in the examination pattern. Students should study every topic and should check the exam pattern before starting with their preparation.
