Over the past 25 years, Oceanco has grown from small beginnings in South Africa, to a world-renowned producer of custom superyachts. Under the guidance of their CEO, Richard Hein, a group of private investors began yacht building operations in Durban, South Africa, where superstructures were then transported to the Netherlands for finishing work.
Once the company had acquired a facility in Alblasserdam, they quickly rose in prominence, producing a string of successful, highly sought-after yachts in the following years.
In 2002, the company was taken over by Greek steel and shipping magnate Theodore Angelopoulos, who steered the shipyard in a new direction with a marketing strategy focused solely on the 80m+ megayacht market. From this, the ‘Y Generation’ of Oceanco yachts was born, which has since received numerous awards for its flawless design and cutting-edge technology.
Now, the shipyard has the ability to build five yachts, all over 80m, at one time – a significant evolution since their humble beginnings.

Some of the fleet’s most noteworthy yachts include ALFA NERO, an 82m icon which became the first superyacht to feature an infinity pool that converts into a helipad and a dancefloor, as well as BLACK PEARL, a 106.7m DynaRig three-masted sailing yacht, which is the largest and most ecologically-oriented sailing yacht in the world.
