Born and raised in Sussex, UK, Harvey entered the maritime industry as an officer cadet in the Merchant Navy, gaining varied commercial experience supervising and navigating container ships and car carriers up to 345m in length.
Within this time, he gained a Higher National Diploma in nautical science and an Officer Of The Watch Unlimited qualification at Warsash Maritime Academy. After graduating, Harvey was an officer on Bibby HydroMap survey vessels, running with Dynamic Positioning 2 as they surveyed cables running between Ireland and the UK. He then moved to wind-turbine support vessels for Seacat Services, sailing as the OOW.
Yachts have always been Harvey’s passion, so he soon made the transition on to Abeking & Rasmussen, where he was employed as a chief officer. During his duration on the yacht he spent a lengthy amount of time involved in the complete refit in Balk Shipyard in the Netherlands. Although enjoying life at sea, maritime management was where he saw his long term future and has been fortunate enough to apply his skills to superyachts at Ocean Independence.
