Thom's career in the yachting industry spans over 40 years.
He is an avid sailor and has held positions as Captain, project manager, yacht broker, yacht builder, and shipyard owner. Throughout his career, he has been involved with the construction, sale and repair of yachts ranging in size from 15m (50’) to 105m (344’) in six different countries including the United States, Holland, Germany, Turkey, Canada and Italy. One of his businesses was Intermarine Shipyard in Savannah, Georgia (the largest yacht facility in the country at the time), where he managed 450 people and $125 million in revenues annually.
Currently, Thom is Senior Director for Ocean Independence as well as Director of Sales for Heesen Yachts in North America, Mexico, the Bahamas & Caribbean. With Ocean Independence, Thom is responsible for the buying, selling, chartering and managing of yachts in the Americas.
Thom’s comprehensive knowledge of yacht construction, sales, management and operations has established him as a trusted advisor to clients and colleagues. In addition to his roles with Ocean Independence and Heesen Yachts, Thom is President of Conboy & Associates, Inc. He is currently serving as a consultant on five new-builds representing the owners to oversee and manage the full-scope of the projects. They are: 16.5m/54’ Maori, 24m/80’ Maori, 40m/131’ Van der Valk, 80m/262.5’ Amels and 105m/344.5’ yard to be determined.
