Articles Yacht Tour: PLAN A

Ahead of her attendance at the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show, we show you exactly why PLAN A is one of the most desirable open series superyachts ever built.

You can’t grow up without learning to recognise the vivid ‘Rosso Corsa’ paintwork and racetrack derived stance of a Ferrari, despite never having made an effort to actually learn each specific model. They are so undeniably good looking, and so ingeniously unique, they inevitably become symbolic, taking up room in our heads over a period of cultural osmosis.

This is a phenomenon that is applicable, in it’s own way, to open series Mangustas. It feels impossible to imagine a picture of Saint Tropez, Portofino, or Monaco without a Mangusta somewhere in the scene. Elegantly moored stern-to, the sun flashing off its painstakingly polished chrome fittings and brilliant white hull, or effortlessly powering across the horizon.

Even for those that have no interest in yachts, and whose seafaring skills extend about as far as driving a car onto a ferry, they may not know what a Mangusta is, but they will recognise the sleek silhouette of these iconic superyachts. Somehow, just like the legendary automobiles from Maranello, these beautiful yachts have lodged themselves deep in many people’s minds.

Resulting from a collaboration between the Rodriguez Group and the Overmarine shipyard, located in Viareggio (Italy), this series of Mangusta yachts are the largest and fastest open series superyachts ever built, and are available in six models: 72’, 80’, 92’, 105’, 108’, 130’.

The 130 sits at the top of the pile in terms of size and performance, so, Ocean Independence is thrilled to present one of the finest examples of the Mangusta 130 for sale at the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show, PLAN A.

Launched in 2007, PLAN A stands as a testament to the Italian marque’s undeniable build quality, and meticulous maintenance from her current Owner. Below we take a tour of this stunning yacht.

AFT DECK

This aft deck, known for its generous dimensions across the Mangusta series, is one of PLAN A’s defining features, striking a balance between space and thoughtful design. As Yacht Sales Consultant Adrian Soos, remarks, “the aft deck on PLAN A isn’t just about space; it’s about using that space to create moments.”

This is a yacht where versatility has been carefully considered. A plush lounging area beneath a retractable shade beckons guests to recline and bask in the sun, whilst the central dining table stands ready to host afternoon soirées, filled with laughter, fine wine, and stories that last well into the early hours.

Designed to cater to multi-generational groups, PLAN A’s practicality shines through. Two discrete lockers aft house a selection of watertoys. And for those who wish for a seamless transition from yacht to shore, a dedicated tender garage, complete with a 16′ Castoldi tender delivers a neat solution.

PLAN A Yacht Aft Deck

Adrian captures PLAN A’s essence stating, “everything about this yacht, especially the aft deck, feels decidedly Italian – where design meets functionality. It’s not just about the toys and luxury, it’s about where they fit and how they enhance the yachting experience.”

This, paired with her impeccable level of maintenance, MCA compliance, fast cruising, and low draft, means she is primed to become an exceptional charter yacht, ideal for an Owner looking to recoup some of the running costs of their luxury yacht.

FOREDECK / BOW AREA

For more secluded lounging, take a short walk forward along the side decks. As you pass the undulating superstructure – which is unmistakably Mangusta; streamlined, modern, and designed with intent – you’ll notice the stanchions are angled forward. A Mangusta signature, and a subtle hint to the yacht’s impressive performance.

While we mention performance, PLAN A has two MTU engines that put out a combined 7,300 horsepower through two Kamewa 63SII WaterJets, propelling her up to 32 knots in complete comfort. A truly extraordinary feat of engineering for a 40 metre (130 foot) luxury yacht.

Reaching the foredeck, a sense of space and intimacy is immediately felt. Featuring an expansive sunpad and seating area, whether you are sipping cocktails with a prime view of Portofino or watching views of the Amalfi Coast pass by as you cruise to your next anchorage, the Mangusta 130 provides an abundance of decadent outdoor spaces.

SALON

Step inside PLAN A and the salon immediately captures attention. Light floods in, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship of the bespoke interior design. It’s clear that Earlcrown of London, in collaboration with Mangusta, left no detail overlooked. High gloss wenge wood and chrome finishes provide a tasteful contrast, offering a sleek yet warm atmosphere.

The layout is intuitive. Comfortable seating lines both sides of the salon, encouraging relaxation and conversation. Moving forward, a formal dining table sits ready for a white glove, five course meal, courtesy of the onboard chef. What sets this area apart is the sliding roof above, allowing guests to experience open-sky meals, should they choose.

Stood in the salon, Adrian highlights, “The salon is truly the heart of this yacht, blurring the boundaries between the outside and in, it adds to the onboard experience, providing a versatile space that is perfect for any occasion.

FULL-BEAM MASTER STATEROOM

On the lower deck, PLAN A’s master stateroom stretches across the entire width of the yacht, delivering a sense of grandeur and space. The Earlcrown of London design remains consistent throughout with light, neutral tones extending from the main salon, fostering a calming and contemporary atmosphere.

Practicality complements luxury here. Beyond its aesthetics, the master stateroom boasts ample wardrobe capacity to accommodate extended voyages. Modern comforts haven’t been overlooked either; an integrated TV for entertainment, a cosy sofa for relaxation, and a spacious en suite bathroom, meticulously finished in premium Italian marble, encapsulate the essence of onboard luxury.

Adrian, who knows PLAN A intimately, notes, “The master stateroom stands as a testament to both design finesse and functionality. It’s an experience of refined comfort even for the most discerning of Owners.”

GUEST ACCOMMODATION

Focusing on luxury without sacrificing practicality, PLAN A stands out as a unique Mangusta 130 with a bespoke layout, offering five cabins that cater perfectly to families.

On the lower deck, along with the spacious full-beam master suite, there is a large forward VIP stateroom, two elegant double staterooms, and a practical four-bunk cabin. This layout comfortably accommodates 12 guests in refined luxury.

All cabins feature the same exquisite finishes and materials seen throughout the salon and master stateroom, as well as sizable en suite bathrooms, each finished with stunning Italian marble, providing guests an unforgettable stay on board.

The crew’s quarters, located aft, are designed for efficiency and comfort. This area houses seven to eight crew members in four separate cabins. Along with accommodation, the crew quarters include a well-equipped galley, and a laundry area, ensuring seamless operations on board.

Reflecting on the thought put into PLAN A’s interior layout, Adrian notes, “PLAN A’s strength is in its balance. The guest accommodation is both spacious and functional, making every trip enjoyable and hassle-free for guests and crew alike.”

PLAN A master suite

Unmistakably and unapologetically Italian, PLAN A, with her distinct Mangusta design, showcases a stunning blend of power and elegance. Her interiors, rich in detail and crafted for comfort, complement the yacht’s incredible performance.

With sprawling decks, she’s tailored for both relaxation and entertainment. Sunbathing during the day or dining under the stars, PLAN A offers versatile outdoor spaces for guests. Whilst her pristine condition and 2020 refit, along with her MCA compliance position her perfectly for those considering charter opportunities.
